TerreWEB (Terrestrial Research on Ecosystem & World-wide Education and Broadcast) is a graduate training program that focuses on the importance of effectively communicating global change research.

Selected as one of 3 programs at UBC to be funded for 2011-2016 by the NSERC-CREATE (Collaborative Research and Training Experience) initiative, TerreWEB aims to have Master and PhD students integrate global change science, social science, and communications research. TerreWEB is led by Professor Suzanne Simard (Faculty of Forestry), 11 UBC scientists from 5 faculties and institutes, and over 35 collaborators from across the globe.

TerreWEB’s overall goal is to develop collaborative, graduate educational program that focuses on global change, behavioural decision making, and multimedia communications for informing stakeholders and the public using interactive assessment research and complex systems theory. TerreWEB trains graduate students from various backgrounds to become better communicators of their global change research using TV, film, Internet, mobile applications and more. This innovative graduate program includes researchers from UBC’s Faculties of Land and Food Systems, Forestry, Arts, Science, and Education, as well as Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT). The principal co-applicants come from Forest Sciences, Botany, Geography, Soil and Biometeorology, Microbiology and Immunology, Theatre and Film, the Institute for Resources Environment and Sustainability (IRES), the School of Journalism, and the School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP).
