In 2007, several soil scientists from British Columbia (BC) initiated the Virtual Soil Science Learning Resources group with the objective of enhancing soil science teaching and learning through cooperative and innovative approaches. Two years later, the group expanded to include representatives from other Canadian provinces and Virtual Soil Science Learning Resources started to become a focal point for collaborative teaching efforts among scientists, students and multimedia experts across the country.

The group has established an award winning record of cooperation in the development of curriculum materials, which are featured at this web site. There is much potential to take this collaboration to the next level of jointly offered courses and curriculum development to sustain the discipline of soil science across Canada.
